Learning Music with Me
Students enjoy music lessons – I want my students feel welcome and enjoy their lesson in a warm and friendly environment.
Share a love of music – I share my love of music-making, listening to music and musical creativity to all pupils. Playing music is one of life’s great joys!
Play the music you enjoy – my students explore a wide range of music and find and play music that is meaningful to them and that they enjoy playing.
Make music with other people – playing music with other people is a great source of enjoyment and I encourage students to play with each other, with friends, in church or at school.
Inspire creativity and imagination – students young and old can use their imaginations and unleash their creative minds through music.
My Experience
After learning to play the recorder at primary school, I went on to study the flute and piano. I gained distinction in performance (ALCM) and teaching (LLCM) diplomas at Napier University in Edinburgh. I have been teaching both flute and piano in Skipton since 2008. In 2017 I completed the EPTA-UK Piano Teachers Certificate course, with distinction. I am a member of EPTA-UK and The Curious Piano Teachers, which provide ongoing training and access to the latest pedagogical ideas.
Returning Adult Students
Do you have an instrument gathering dust at home? Did you learn as a child and aren’t sure how to pick up your skills again? Perhaps you started teaching yourself, but are now unsure how to progress.
I offer a four lesson Practice Starter course to establish a practice regime that will help you to make progress on your instrument. As part of your 4 lessons I will;
Assess your current standard and identify particular areas for improvement
Recommend specific resources (sheet music) to help you to get motivated by music you enjoy
Produce a personalized practice schedule based on where you are and what you want to achieve
